"OWN THAT SH*T"
You've seen how I became the Joker... but are you ready to see how Brianna Franklin became Harley Quinn? If your answer is yes, then lucky you. If you said no, too bad, you're already here.
Welcome to another round of +FSHN!
As you know, Brianna and I visited Heroes & Villains Fanfest in San Jose as the king and queen of Gotham City. We've been planning this cosplay for months. Over that time, we had a lot of ideas in what we wanted to do. There was this idea about going as a 'biker' influenced Joker and Harley with spray-painted 'ARKHAM' in the back of thrifted leather jackets. After realizing the complexity of that attire, we decided to do a more Suicide Squad inspired look. But aside from Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Brianna also took inspiration from Harleys of the past! Here's a rundown of some inspirations for this look:
The night before, we did a dressed rehearsals to make sure everything fit fine. Because of Brianna's thick hair (and big head, lol), the Suicide Squad Harley wig we bought didn't fit right. The pigtails left at least an inch showing in the back. We decided to let her hair down, more similar to the club scene from the movie. To keep the wig on, we also took inspiration from Harley Quinn #29 and used a red beanie.
As you can see, this look was very much inspired by Suicide Squad Harley Quinn. The 'Daddy's 'Lil Monster' shirt, studded gun holsters, 'PUDDIN' choker, and the fishnet leggings are from the Harley Quinn section at Hot Topic. The pink and blue hair and make-up are also from the movie (specifically, when it gets messier towards the end). You can find this wig on Amazon; it's modeled after Margot Robbie's style but is actually a blonde bob base with pink and blue longer strands on the side. You can see that we tried to work with body make-up, but failed miserably. Oops!
Unlike the Suicide Squad Harley, though, we wanted a more red-black-white color scheme similar to the Rebirth Harley Quinn. You can pick up the red and black Harley Quinn booty shorts at your local Hot Topic as well (do you see a pattern?), while the black fingerless gloves and the studded bracelet are from Brianna's closet. At some point, I got tired of my bullet sash breaking off and told her to put it on too. It adds to that 'she's mine' effect.
Does that bat look similar? It's definitely not from Suicide Squad. The bat is a version of Harley Quinn's bat from Arkham Knight. It is custom made with a candy cane pattern and pink studs around the crown.
Tip: Get yourself a foam bat when going to an event like this. They held onto our bat until the end of the day.
'Til next time. Goodnight, Gotham!
