Too bad "we were in the White House to meet Obama last November!" wasn't enough for a re-entry.
Ah, Washington D.C... I missed your scalding heat and suffocating humidity. Last month, I had the privilege of returning to this great city as an Alumni Ambassador for Junior Achievement's National Student Leadership Summit 2016! But that's not even the best part- I got to go with my great friend Rachel Gorgas of The Mind of Style. Before the summit, we took some time off to head to the city to shoot some B-roll for a project we are doing and do a shoot by the White House.
Here's the look:
If you're ever headed to D.C. in the summer, always assume that it will be hot af (and, if your trip will be anything like mine, it will rain hot water while you are on the street). So dress cool and comfy.
I honestly don't know where the shirt I am wearing from is because I thrifted it and it didn't come with a tag. That's right- thrifting. You can honestly find so many nice things for cheap prices at thrift shops! I got this gray button-up for just $5.00. Just remember to wash what you buy (a few times, maybe).
I like to pair button-ups with a plain black shirts underneath. You can see me wearing variations of this in many pictures on Instagram (sorry not sorry).
Funny story about those green jeans- I actually lost them for about three years but I can still miraculously squeeze into them. They are Denizen forest green skinny jeans I bought from Target when from four years ago (yeah that's pretty embarrassing but people make questionable decisions as high school sophomores, okay?). I did want to wear some classic Converse for this outfit, but I asked Rachel for her opinion and ended up wearing a pair of brown Clarks.
Accessorizing is important. You can usually spot me wearing a combination of these wooden bracelets. Rachel gave me this cute compass bracelet for my birthday this year, so I thought I'd put it on. If this was a cheesy young adult novel, I guess you could say it's like a reminder that we can be anywhere in the world but we'd still love each other <3 (wow that was sticky).
I had a lot to carry a lot of things from extra power strips to selfie sticks this trip so I stuffed it all in this tan satchel (/man purse) from Forever 21. I bought this bag last year while shopping for things to wear for my national competition! Who would have thought that I'd be back a year later?
And the most important accessory- my Canon Rebel Ti5 EOS. I'm honestly still learning the ropes on photography but I am so grateful for everyone's good reception and support!
That's it for today. Shout out to Rachel for taking these for me! Make sure you head over to The Mind of Style to see more fashion posts and pics from Rachel. Don't forget to check out the full shoot I did with Rach on +EYE! Check out a teaser below. 'Til next time!
