“Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes, but when you look back, everything is different…” - C.S. Lewis
It’s an Inevitable pursuit
Drastic as it may seem
It all happens at once.
When you look in the mirror by the door
You notice that crease on your forehead that wasn't there before
You don't remember having that freckle on your face
It seems like it’s out of place.
Or maybe it’s even how you feel
And it all just seems too surreal
You think differently, act differently
You fail recognize the way you once were
Stress is high, emotions are wild
Change happens even when you’re acting like a child.
You wake up one day and everything has changed
Your thoughts and feelings have rearranged
Yet all has stayed the same
Because we are familiar with change
We anticipate the change
Embracing the new
But it’s quite a familiar routine
Nothing’s changed, everything has changed
Exercised into our diets
Causes us to make choices
Learn from our mistakes
Adapt, grow, transform
There’s this idea
That you mold yourself until you become something beautiful
That these stepping stones are a means to reach the finish line
You go through changes and phases that make you a better person
I want to be the one
Embracing change, being the change, benefiting from change
It’s a good thing
It’s what makes us dynamic, special, unique
Altering a piece of you
But its okay
Reawaken to the new you.
I wrote this little free verse poem to explore the concept of transformation and change.
“A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.” - Coco Chanel
Transformation is a part of life. We all go through it; we all are changing everyday.
The new year just symbolizes a fresh start, a new chapter, but you can either let change affect
you, or consciously make the change yourself to better your life.
You see change works in two ways: you can change without realizing it, or you can change
things about your life that you are not satisfied with.
Socrates once said, “The secret to change is to focus all your energy, not on fighting the old,
but on building the new.”
As to change we often fail to realize that it is ultimately inevitable, intricately dynamic, and
This year of 2016 we should embrace the change, embrace new things, and grow to love our
complex, unique, and beautiful selves.
“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the
dance.” -Alan W. Watts
(can you tell I’m keen on quotations?)
