YOU KNOW WHAT'S WORSE THAN A REUNION FLAKE? TWO REUNION FLAKES.
Okay, so I am really upset over two (or like, three) very valid reasons. First of all, there I was, clad in sweatpants and typing my feels away while watching High School Musical. As II was typing the last word to this post, I click on something, then BAM, all the words were gone, just like that. Then I tried doing this in the morning. Same thing happens. SECOND, High School Musical is turning 10 this Wednesday, January 20th. Disney Channel is celebrating with a cast reunion to air that day to commemorate the release of the first film. All our faves will be there - Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad, even Taylor. ALL EXCEPT, TROY BOLTON.
Apparently, this most sacred oath doesn't apply to Troy Bolton anymore. In the preview photos, it looks like Zac Efron won't be a part of that cast reunion, since he was visibly absent from the group pics in the red and white Wildcat gym. If you are wondering why I am upset about this and think I am tripping, then close this page because you simply do not understand. If you've never daydreamed about dancing with your secret crush to Can I Have This Dance, chanted the word summer multiple times before class ends, or attempted to learn the choreography to We're All in this Together, then have you really lived life?
High School Musical taught me a lot of things. It's probably the reason me and Tiffany did theater in high school. We were like the mini brown Ryan and Sharpay. Hell, Troy Bolton taught me how to multitask. If it weren't for him, I would not have ran Herban Movement and done theater at the same time. Gabriella taught me that nerds can sing and be cute too. Like, those 3 movies influenced my life so much.
But apparently, Troy Bolton doesn't care. Zac Efron is too busy with his Dirty Grandpa or something. Speaking of Dirty Grandpas, guess who else is flaking from their reunion?!
MISS CHANANDLER BONG, THAT'S WHO
That's right. Matthew Perry is also flaking on the Friends reunion. The show is having a mini reunion (it's not really a reunion but eh, I'll take it) on CBS and everyone is going to be there but Chandler! Is 2016 the year of the flake? Besides HSM, the other thing that molded me was Friends. It taught me how to be an adult. I remember using the "How you doing?" line on girls would work. I practically broke down when Taylor Swift brought Phoebe Buffay to sing Smelly Cat on stage during the 1989 World Tour. In many cases, my friend group(s) have referred to me as the group's Monica, Rachel, or Chandler. I have Monica's OCD and constant search for control, Rachel's spoildnessseses, and Chandler's sarcasm. Hell, he was a little gay too. I feel betrayed.
I guess this year is just the year of the childhood tears. This year was supposed to be special. I thought it was the year that I was going to have a Start of Something New moment on New Year's Eve but my boyfriend was out in A̶l̶b̶u̶q̶u̶e̶r̶q̶u̶e̶ Alaska and could not have a karaoke moment with me. Meanwhile, this New Year marked 10 years since Troy and Gabriella met. And then all these reunions happened, and Troy and Chanlder decide they're too cool.
Zac Efron, you need to Get Your Head in the Game. You need to Stick to the Status Quo, because When There Was me and You, it was like We're Breaking Free. I thought We're All in this Together? I thought we were All for One, Everyday? But I guess he had to go his own way. He couldn't Work this Out. But he's going to regret it. Bet On It.
Okay, no more puns. I guess I just Want it All, Right Here, Right Now. Wednesday will be A Night to Remember, and we Just Wanna Be With You, Troy Bolton. So don't just Walk Away. Or we're all going to Scream.
OKAY I SWEAR I AM DONE. I'm just loving these reunions and want to see all my childhood figures on board. I just want more.
Anyway, the High School Musical Reunion is airing on Wednesday, January 20th at Disney Channel, while the Friends Reunion is not really a reunion but will happen on February 21st on NBC. Just remember that Troy Bolton and Chandler Bing won't be there. You know what, we should have seen this coming. Zac Efron did star as Matthew Perry's younger self in 17 Again. They probably made a blood oath to ditch their reunions and screw everyone's lives up. I guess we should have seen it when we found out that Zac Efron didn't sing anything in the first movie.
UPDATE: I took Brostin out for a date to celebrate his birthday tomorrow, and we stumbled upon Pop Funko figures of the Friends characters. We bought Phoebe and Monica, but didn't bother to buy Chandler because he didn't bother to go to the reunion.
